Whiskey Donation Scheme
The Universal is a big game made by a very small team.
Most comparable online games (Second Life, Everquest, etc etc) have artists and programmers who get paid every month and work for years before the release of a title. We don't have any of that. Our development team is a bunch of monkeys, who don't get paid and haven't been close to a release schedule in years.
Our development monkeys are fed on a special diet of tobacco and single malts, which almost completely makes up for the lack of pay, but unfortunately does have the side-effect of producing code and artwork that makes little sense and often falls over if pushed.
To maintain supplies of whiskey to our developers, and to support our plan to dramatically increase the number of monkeys in the universe, we maintain a 'Developers Whiskey Fund' from contributions made by players in the game.
If you would like to contribute to this fund, and ensure our programmers, artists, world builders and admin chimps are kept in a near-permanent state of extreme drunkenness - enough to ensure new features and content are added regularly - please visit our donations page.
You can be assured that any donations you make will go straight to the game developers - there are no middlemen or production costs to cover. We guarantee that every single penny you donate will be wasted almost immediately on alcohol and cigarettes.*

About The Universal
The Universal is an independent game project that has been running since 2000. Written originally by 'Mit' - a professional game developer with too little time on his hands - over the years it has grown from a simple online economy game into a universe full of different game styles and user-generated content.
